Getting the kinks out!

Yesterday my ten year old came up to me with a sore neck; he must have twisted it in an odd way getting out of the bathtub.  He winced when I went to massage the vertebrae between the muscles. He wouldn't let me touch it.  But he did let me guide him in a few very simple stretches with breathing.  Reminding him all throughout the stretch NOT to force anything.  If it hurts, STOP!

Slowly and obediently he turned his head to look over his right shoulder on a slow, deep inhale.
Then he rotated only his head toward his left shoulder, keeping his chin level, and exhaling very slowly.
Repeating this several times, I suggested he do the same breaths but dropping his head forward, chin to chest, and backward.

He said, "Thanks, Ma.  Feels better," and was off and running.
